Updating and replacing flooring can be an expensive endeavor. If you’ve ever built or updated a home, you know how quickly costs can add up! Today I’m sharing five inexpensive floor tiles with a ton of style. The bonus? All the floor tiles are under $5 a square foot. Yes, you read that correctly, they are UNDER $5.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised to know you can achieve a high-end look that works with a budget. Some of the links are affiliates. All that means is I’ll receive a small commission if you purchase at absolutely no additional cost to you.
Inexpensive Floor Tile: Square Field Tile
SOURCES: Porcelain Tile \\ Chevron Tile
This floor tile imitates natural stone but without the cost. Porcelain tile is a super versatile option.
Rather than lay the square tile in the predictable pattern, shake things up a bit.
Install the floor tile on a diagonal or offset the lines. Turn the tile on an angle. The room will appear larger.
Cut the tile in half and install in a brick, herringbone or subway pattern for a big statement.
Neutral & Modern Floor Tile
Source: Gray Porcelain Tile
Neutral does not mean boring when it comes to tile. A gray tile like this is perfect in a bathroom, mudroom or laundry room. The rectangular shapes lend itself to many options. One idea, if installing a lighter tile of similar shape, is to use dark grout to grab attention.
If installing tile in a high traffic area, I typically do not recommend light color grout. Over time it will appear worn and tired.
Neutral floor tile is the perfect opportunity to highlight standout accessories or interesting elements of a room.
Faux Plank Floor Tile
Faux wood tile is perfection in a home office. If you like this look, you’ll have options galore!
The difficult part is narrowing down the favorite!
I wrote an article that has helpful information on what to look for when shopping for wood floor tile.
When installing plank style floor tile, my suggestion is to lay it like a wood floor.
Make sure that the grout lines random versus matchy.
Installing in the same pattern as wood floors will look better, in my opinion. Also, consider keeping the grout a similar tone as the planks.

Big Statement Floor Tile
Perhaps one of my favorite floor tile.
Install a vibrant pattern and make a BIG statement with two-toned tile.
I cannot wait to finish off our downstairs so I can use this somewhere, probably the bathroom.
When it comes to big, bold tile, I like to see it in a powder room, laundry room or front entry.
Notice the different grout color in each photo below. One uses white, and the other has black. Both are beautiful.

Hexagon Mosaic Floor Tile
Hexagon mosaic floor tile is a classic pattern!
It became popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s with bungalow style homes. Talk about a classic.
I love the neutral colors of the hexagon tile because of the warm, greige tones.
The colors in the greige floor tile would look fantastic with creamy, white cabinetry.
Hello….swoon worthy tile!
