Patriotic holiday’s fill our summers here in the United States. So now is the time to proudly display red, white & blue home decor. When it comes to summer decorating, I keep things simple, especially for outdoor celebrations such as Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day. Links to specific items are at the bottom of each section for your convenience.
I’ve compiled a list of must have patriotic home decor. The items will last for years and make any outdoor space look beautiful! There are some affiliate links in this post. All that means is I’ll receive a small compensation at zero additional cost to you.
Keeping it simple vastly increases the cool factor. These simple items are all found at Target. You could easily have them in your home and ready to go by Friday afternoon for the long holiday weekend.
Patriotic Decorating Ideas #1: Bunting
Patriotic bunting is a classic outdoor decor item that always looks good. You’re able to find paper versions of this swag but to keep your home decor looking swank, go with a fabric choice. I actually love it when I see similar items that have been around for years. The decoration has an extra cool factor when that white become slightly off-white (but not dirty). What a great way to greet your guests this holiday weekend by hanging up bunting or of course, flying Old Glory.
Patriotic Decorating Ideas #2: Pillows & Blanket
When vying for the perfect spot to catch the fireworks show on the 4th of July, comfort is a must! Who wants to sit on the grass? Not this girl, for sure!
During the day use the throw pillows and blankets to make your outdoor seating look beautiful and classic. Need extra pillows for star gazing or a passed out guest? (just kidding!) The pillows an outdoor fabric which mean they are durable!
I love the classic paisley pattern with navy blue piping. When decorating for summer holidays:
I prefer to use a color theme versus everything draped in stars or flags. Those are nice, but I prefer to use accessories all season when possible. I’m all about longevity and multipurpose with outdoor living spaces.
The blue welting on the paisley pillow ties in nicely with this blue geometric print outdoor pillow.
It doesn’t have to be all holiday-ish to work well with a themed celebration!
The perfect opportunity to either add an Americana pillow or add a touch of summer. For this grouping, I went with these adorable crab pillows. They are cute, functional and dual sided.
Sadly, a Midwest evening has a chill in the air. So, it’s nice to have a lightweight blanket. And who is fooling who? I like a blanket to keep the mosquitos off!
The chevron blanket is the epitome of multipurpose. Once the summer holidays have passed, repurposing is a breeze. Use it again at Christmas and Valentine’s day. It’s also a great staple for a kids bedroom!
Patriotic Decorating Ideas #3: Entertaining
We all know a big part of holiday weekends are gatherings, grilling out and overall entertaining. Think how cute this cool rattan serving cart would look at your house? I heart this baby!
Seriously, SO many uses for this in addition to holding glasses and libations!
The drawer is a fabulous storage spot.
The handles are built-in towel holders.
Plus, it’s on wheels. So once everyone is loosey goosey at the party, you can give rides down the driveway! I kid!
There’s something about drinking out of a lovely glass that makes any gathering feel a bit more special. Take a different route than the red plastic cups everyone else will have (save those for the kids). For your girlfriends, serve up a fun drink in one of these handblown glass tumblers!
The big blue platter will look lovely with a variety of fruits or veggies. I think the red IKAT and blue multi-pattern cloth napkins will amp up the cool factor. Look at how they spice up a table setting with the patterns! The blue and white melamine plates last for years. I find that aside from being a great patio addition, I like having kids use these plates throughout the summer months.
Finally, I love the look of lanterns on the table. Particularly in the summer months. Which, is probably pretty obvious, given I live in the Midwest. The notion of using a patio in January is absurd.
The soft flicker of candles:
Do you love the candle glow too? Oh, it is so beautiful and relaxing! Here are three pretty lanterns in patriotic colors to adorn your outdoor space and patio tables.
