We’re heading into the busiest time of the year when it comes to gathering with family & friends. I thought it would be fun to share with you five fabulous table accessories for easy entertaining this season. Much like my fall front porch, I strive for beauty combined with ease when it comes to decorating the dining room.
I’m not sure about you but I tend to use the same table accessories time and again when we host a holiday dinner. For each celebration, I change up the decor slightly, but listed below are my trusty friends to ensure easy entertaining!
Table Accessories for Easy Entertaining
Until it’s time to chow down, I love a beautiful centerpiece. But once it’s time to eat, that baby comes off. Huge tall centerpieces are beautiful but my preference is the short version. Basically, I want to easily see over the arrangement and not crane my neck to speak with the person sitting across from me. This year’s centerpiece initially came from a Kirklands store a couple years ago. This year, I removed the hurricane glass that came with the arrangement and added mini-pumpkins to fill in those areas. In addition silk hydrangea flowers, burnt red dahlias, and silk artichokes we added to up the fall factor and create a different look than in years past.
The large candlesticks came from my favorite store: Home Goods. I swear that store has every decorating element a girl needs!
Oh, how I LOVE table linens. Not a big shocker, given my love of fabric. Table linens are a fabulous way to bring in amazing color and pattern without committing the whole room to the look. The easiest thing I’ve found when it comes to table linens is just changing the napkins out. Depending on the meal I sometimes use solid napkins or will use a fun pattern. As an example, for Thanksgiving, I’ll use a simple green napkin that compliments the design of my grandma’s china. For Christmas, I go casual with a fun pattern in traditional holiday colors.
There are two types of plate chargers I love: metallic and woven. Frankly, which one I go with depends on the meal, the number of people I’m hosting and the time of day I’m hosting. If it’s a Christmas Eve dinner, I’ll for sure use metallic plate charger. The added shimmer looks so pretty with a pretty chandelier and candle or dimmed lighting. But I also like the metallic for Thanksgiving too!
The most versatile of table accessories are white dinner plates. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with this choice. They can literally be used everyday or for special occasion meals like Thanksgiving & Christmas. A white dinner plate is also going to give you endless options when it comes to your other tabletop decor. Sometimes though, a special dinner calls for special plates and what is more special than china? I love these plates because they remind me of my grandma. I remember the first time we hosted a Thanksgiving meal she had me take pictures of the table and mail them to her so she could see how it was set. So sweet.
Bust out that crystal stemware. It adds a pretty shimmer to the table especially if it’s an evening gathering. Imagine how pretty the table will look if your chandelier is dimmed and candles are glowing. I recently wrote about some beautiful and affordable foyer light fixtures but any of those lights could also be used above a dining room table.
Crystal stemware is one of the prettiest table accessories available. I try to use the stemware we received as wedding gifts (19 years ago!!!) and I still love the style. A really great look is when people mix in casual color glasses to their tablescapes. It’s just the perfect mix of fancy and casual!
When it comes to table runners, I keep it simple with a hemstitched white cotton runner with natural linen banding. It’s been on the table since summer and seems to work with all the seasons! With that said, there are some very pretty fall table runners available in stores if you want to add a bit of color!
Much like the rest of my home, I wanted to use fall decorating essentials to compliment our decor. I wanted our fall decorations to look pulled together but not overpowering. I shopped our home for the key table accessories and then added fall touches to enhance my favorite season. I love what natural elements such as pumpkins, gourds, and flowers bring to the room. Adding a bit of sparkle with the crystal and china is so pretty to me and I love the softness the table runner and linen napkins add.
Thanksgiving is next week!!! How in the world did that happen so quickly? Thankfully all of my table accessories are here and ready to work! Let me know what you do to make your Thanksgiving day table sparkle!
